Indigenous involvement in the energy sector and new technology can fight poverty and climate change at the same time

At the pre-planning stage, Indigenous leaders are asking for involvement with government and industry. Environmental impact assessments need to include traditional knowledge. Early engagement is important for the planning and regulatory approval processes.

The success of future projects will be linked to the success of Indigenous communities. This reality should be embraced by the federal government. You cannot lead a major change in the natural resources sector without bringing the affected industry and Indigenous people to the table.Article content We are currently going through two transitions. One, we need to increase energy production while lowering environmental impacts. Two, we need to acknowledge and respect Indigenous communities and employees who are part of the natural resources sector. If we can get these two things right, simultaneously, Indigenous voices can lead a different kind of change — a change that will create a new pathway and partnership. That change starts here at home, with the federal government.

All Canadian citizens should receive royalties regarding oil/gas and minerals. This is our country

Just indigenous people How about all people. Norway develops its oil and gas without foreign corporations. They have a trust fund for their people of $1.2 million per family. Alberta has just 1% of that. The profits go to foreign corporations in massive subsidies and profits.

Let all Canadians

RealAndyLeeShow Canadians TOO!!

Well sure, they’re Canadian and have surface and access to trade for participation. Makes sense? Problem is that without sensible, simple regulation, and efficient, consolidated IG consultation the projects take too much time and become economically uncompetitive. Fixable.

If aboriginals prosper, they won't vote Liberal or NDP. That's why they are kept under the government boot.

Also, note the use of 'let' as in, 'please Mr. Government, sir, please allow us to benefit from the Lands which you constantly remind everyone are ours, we beg your permission'

But oil and gas will destroy civilization, including indigenous. Nobody will survive unless we all starve.

If you want to prosper; study, learn, work, save and invest! Drop the “we were here before you” crap. Natives do/did not own Canada, a much more advanced civilization invaded, took it and developed it.

When your culture is virtually non-existent, prosperity is meaningless.

Liberals say oil and gas is racist though

They have every opportunity. Indigenous people are thier own problem.

Like getting in on a pyramid scheme near the top of the triangle

maybe start with an oil pan under all your old cars and collect some oil first. Stewards of the land while they rot into your rivers. But that would mean getting outta bed, right ?

Do I own the mineral rights on my property?

Doesn’t seem congruent with “land keepers”

Why they never used it?

RealAndyLeeShow Rise up FNs!!!! Now or Never!!!!

Oil produced by white man = poison, environmental disaster, shut it down, go green…bad. Oil produced by indigenous = gift of Mother Earth, Reconciliation, sustainable, way forward….good.

MelissaMbarki Excellent article Melissa !! We need you as PM😊

RealAndyLeeShow I agree. Just look at the federal feet dragging on the Reserve mineral rights production in the North Battleford area. The only hold up is the federal approval on reserve owned land.

Too bad politicians like s_guilbeault, JustinTrudeau and JonathanWNV always block Indigenous prosperity. They want Indigenous people to be forever dependent on govt.

Let them? who are canadians to let them let them? its rheir land!! how insane!

Looks like you are mbarking up the wrong tree

National hobby ... Whining!!!

Indigenous can buy shares just like everyone else does; but not with government money.

Interesting point of opportunists... after all the work for profit has been done... after everyone cashed in the cheques and other benefits... after that just go for the jugular?

You’re right and they may not fully trust one party over the other. I suspect that they may be will to trust Trudeau than PP at the negotiation table. You see Conservative Oarty operates like the Republican Party and the UK Tories. Their roots are in colonialism. Yes even the US

Not when the pipelines burst on First Nations Reserves

Unfortunately the CBC and other Liberal media have doing nothing for indigenous people other than use them as props to further their environmentalist agenga. If you are indigenous and want a voice on the CBC you better be a 'land defender' or blocking a pipeline or something.

Will the aboriginal people prosper under a Chinese regime?

By WORKING in the sands with income they can be proud of where they can initiate change in their communities on their own terms, like everyone else. No more tax free living, hold them to account like the rest of us. They will be proud of what they will have accomplished.

Post media does not care at all about indigenous people this is merely about trying to lend more political power to the oil industry that funds post media

You mean the Indigenous that have fought against oil development for decades? Perhaps Indigenous should quit their substantial infighting to resolve their issues so they are not always flip flopping….we all could be benefiting from oil, but our Liberal Nazis keep us held back.

True. We will need oil and gas for another hundred years and many more. It is irreplaceable.

Let them prosper. Doesn’t have to be O&G that allows it. 🤷‍♂️🤔

Melissa Mbarki, proud of you and your article. Well done.

If they own it sure. But not their right.

Can we cut them off if they do?

Climate change, Indigenous issues transcend boundaries with Russia, Governor-General Mary Simon says‘What happens in the North impacts the world, and when you look at security issues and climate change, the world is paying attention more than ever,’ says Simon Regardless whether you like Russia or not, Russia still shouldn’t buy any of the crazy extremism ideology. That’s the best for humanity and sanity. Governor General of should be more concerned what's happening with the corrupt Government in Canada right now. Trudeau's Governors-General never seem to understand their roles, or be capable of respecting the boundaries inherent to the position. Dear GGCanada, you're an unelected figurehead with a ceremonial role, learn to stay in your lane.
