abc.net.au/news/air-pollution-modelling-university-of-melbourne-traffic/102015778Traffic pollution likely causes more than 11,000 premature deaths in Australia a year, new modelling by climate researchers has revealed.Australian researchers have made estimates about the deadly impact of air pollution based on a New Zealand study
The study conducted by the Melbourne Climate Futures used a peer-reviewed New Zealand study of particulate matter — or PM 2.5 — and nitrogen dioxide levels, to assess the risk for Australia. Air pollution is caused by both man-made and natural sources including heavy industry, vehicle emissions and wood fire heaters as well as dust storms and bushfires.
"Simply leaving our cars behind, walking to the shop, cycling, avoiding idling , and moving towards electric vehicles can make a significant difference in reducing air pollution exposure for people," she said. Heart Foundation chief medical adviser and cardiologist Garry Jennings said policy makers should do everything possible to have the cleanest fuels and regulate emissions."Air pollution is an emerging issue in cardiovascular health," he said.
Random checks on all vehicle emissions is needed Mid 1970s defect notices issued for exhaust smoke Today trucks use chemical to defeat the visual but not the actual deadly particulates from diesel engines Breathe test & exhaust test two for one stop
EVs do do not reduce emissions, they simply move them somewhere else.
Modeling! Yea, I built a model once. Thing is it was not real. I also am skeptical of the 11K figure. Seems to me another group hunting for funding. Funding all these groups means no money for actual solutions.
Make registration free for electric vehicles.
What do you think bringing in a million foreigners every 2 years is going to do then? All these people will buy cars and have to drive them. Immigration damages the environment and kills people!
Air pollution has improved twofold here in Australia..along with engine oil leaks and litter. Go tell India that. The transition to a greener atmosphere? India will struggle. It's the 'big 3' countries that need to get moving
Modelling also called for unnecessary lockdowns and dangerous, ineffective vaccines.
