Labor must help coal workers with the transition to clean energy and not leave their fate to Mike Cannon-Brookes and teal independents, the mining union says.

The Albanese government has been warned it risks a blue-collar backlash and prolonging of the climate wars unless it establishes a transition scheme to help the thousands of workers and the regions that will be left high and dry by the rapid phase-out of coal-fired power.

“It needs to embrace its historic mission and ensure it’s not average working families who are forced to be the fall guys.” “But it would also be an epic social and political failure.
