Yes, another 800hp, widebody G-Class - we'll miss this when they're all electric...

It would be fair to say that even the standard Mercedes-AMG G63 is a pretty divisive car, and it’s seldom that Brabus’s workon PH either. Few sit on the fence when it comes to modifying Mercedes’ 4x4 icon. But you only need peek in the classifieds to see how popular Brabus’s work actually is, with power upgrades, wheels and bodykits featuring on a fair few Gs.

And, well, the customer is always right, especially when their willing to spend a lot of money on an expensive car, so Brabus has a new range of G-Class upgrades focused on the latest 4X4² variant. The attention this time around is on ‘the opportunity to fully express one's own taste in comfort through comprehensive leather/Alcantara trim options and aluminium/carbon elements for the interior’, which is on full display with this demonstrator and its carbon fibre cake of a cabin.

The rest is more familiar . For all the G63 variants, portal axled or not, the legendary 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 can be boosted to 700 or 800hp. The latter upgrade takes torque to 738lb ft, too. The forged 22-inch wheels are said to provide ‘maximum strength’, though goodness knows how and where a potential customer would test that, and the Widestar bodykit is back in all its carbon fibre glory.

Apparently this new G63 4X4² is ‘ready for adventure’, though it hasn’t yet ventured off the beaten track if the pictures are anything to go by. Would you dare, though? A Brabus overhaul like this will surely be prohibitively expensive. And a regular G-Class is plenty capable enough. But as all the commissions already out there prove, sometimes more than enough is very far from enough - expect to see a few more of these out doing what G-Classes do some point very soon.
