City of Calgary granted $165M loan for electric bus purchases

It also says there will be significant savings. According to a Wednesday news release, lifetime fueling and maintenance for an electric bus could be up to 50 per cent lower than for a diesel bus.Story continues below advertisement

“The finance team has done a lot of work with the Canada Infrastructure Bank to make sure this is in the best interest of the city,” she told reporters on Wednesday. “I’m really hopeful we can expedite this process. … This is another move to diversify the fleet and I hope it’s a quick one. “This is demonstrating value for the climate declaration and strategy and it demonstrates a city that is progressive that is moving a diverse bus fleet.”

😂😂😂😂😂

This will be good when they don’t run in cold weather what a waste in money and a joke 😂😂😂

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Lovely. Federal money again coming to help AB. God knows the UCP would never do anything to reduce emissions.

Wow, that’s a lot of money for very little reduction (10k T is not significant).

Banks are GHG experts now. ?

Vote buying did you say!!!!!! And what will be the “surprise “ down fall to electric buses So they will pay 10 times for an electric bus and the someone will say,” oh….I never thought of that !!!!! Then they will park the bus, never to be used again!!

Edmonton has some electric buses and there is silence regarding their performance. If the buses were actually working we would hear about it daily. Sadly councils of both cities don’t care about the expense to purchase/repair as long as they can virtual signal.

It’s obvious Calgary mayor and council need to be replaced for the waste of 165m dollars . They are plugged into the N wo Green deal .

Fire Calgary N wo mayor. We do not consent in spending 165m in this way . Fire or resign immediately

Yeah, -40'C with an electric bus going up Edmonton Trail from the core. That should be fun to watch!!!

Another great waste of tax payers money

And what is the plan for battery replacement/disposal.

As if those poor kids digging up cobalt in Congo weren’t busy enough…

Calgary transit is unsafe.

Yeah because they won’t run or charge or some other excuse it’s actually funny woke bs yet people still sleep outside each

I bet they don't do well in the winter.

Yeah did they look in to see how they get rid of the batteries after their depleted you just don't recycle those batteries you just throw them in the landfill and really how are these electric buses going to do in the winter time used to have electric trolleys back in 60/ 70's

Isn’t that nice. They will be broke down all over the city.

And how do they charge and how are the batteries mined ? Nobody wants to talk about that hey ?

I doubt it

Will they have a druggie section?

Lol how will those busses get their charge ?

Do they have solar panel on top of the buses? Or will the buses run on fossil fuel generated electricity? Just Curious

Why not give grants for ppl to have more electric cars too? Instead of just federal rebates, other provinces have rebates on top of electric cars.
