Why Netflix is placing cars like the Chevy Bolt in its shows, and what the streamer's deal with GM means for its growing advertising business

said the streamer has committed to including at least one GM EV in every Netflix-produced series, an arrangement that started in 2022 with"Love is Blind" and"Queer Eye." The upcoming comedy series"Unstable," which stars Rob Lowe and his son, also is set to be part of the deal.

Netflix and GM will promote the initiative with a 60-second Super Bowl spot, which will again feature Will Ferrell, who starred in GM's 2021 Super Bowl ad. In the new ad, Ferrell addresses some creative implications of the deal head-on while dressed as a character in the Regency-era series"Bridgerton."

With the pact, GM hopes to normalize EVs by showing cars like the Chevrolet Bolt and Cadillac Lyric in popular series, while Netflix seeks to promote itself as committed to the environment.
