Business Secretary Grant Shapps says he is"horrified" by the findings and said the energy minister would hold a meeting with British Gas"in the coming days".British Gas has suspended the use of court warrants to force-fit prepayment meters after a report alleged it sent debt collectors to break into customers' homes to install them - ignoring their vulnerabilities.
In its undercover investigation, the paper also alleged that Arvato employees were incentivised with bonuses to fit prepayment meters. A spokesman told the paper:"If there has been any verbal or any other type of misconduct by individual employees, we deeply regret it."
So 'Force Fitting'? So forcing someone to do/have something they don't want is bullying/abuse/illegal?
British Gas would not be allowed to break into homes if the law did not permit it. Over to Prime Minister Sunak and his oligarchs to change the law.
Well done Thomas Prince for highlighting this issue on Sky News last week!
Smart meters were foisted on consumers with lies. They only benefit the suppliers. The more control you give them the more they will abuse it. You were warned. Re-nationalize NOW. NO compensation
Forcing a household of a disabled girl who has a hoist & powered wheelchair onto a prepay meter is absolutely disgusting. Electricity costs for disabled people are through the roof even in normal times. Business & government need to do hell of a lot more to support the vulnerable
They shouldn’t be breaking into any homes unless they suspect a gas leak. Absolute scum.
Nasty company
Should have done that a long rime ago.
