One turning point, Professor Skyllas-Kazacos said, was the 2016 South Australian blackout.
Another related reason was that, with proper maintenance, the battery could technically last forever. This remarkable property of VRFB has seen them being described as the next big technology for large-scale storage. The world's largest VRFB, installed in China last year, has a capacity of 100MW and power of 400MWh, or enough to meet the electricity demand of 200,000 residents for a day.
A battery is a device that stores chemical energy and converts it to electrical energy. It does this through chemical reactions that create a flow of electrons from one material to another.Beyond this, different kinds of batteries work in different ways.
So the gits of that is scientists working at uni sells patent for next to nothing 30-40 yrs on earns nothing and uni makes nothing and corporations n china make billions .
Actually a lot of people have, it'll be great for some applications and not others. Like Lithium batteries, it's not the answer to everything. We should certainly diversfy our tech investments including home grown fusion companies like HB11.
We have heard of it, it’s just they are not particularly environmentally friendly or efficient so we need to keep working on the tech to find a sustainable solution. This will not work as a battery for storing energy when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow.
I wonder...
Mechanical flywheel batteries the go, sink one into your lawn, job done.
Because it will pollute the planet
Perhaps this is why: “Since they're big, heavy and expensive to buy, the use of vanadium batteries may be limited to industrial and grid applications.”
good story. needs to be publisised more
There are a few - they just aren’t as good in all applications. Lithium based batteries have significantly higher energy density (they take up much less space/weight to store the same amount of energy) which is why the are so useful.
We have heard of it, sadly ABC must be live under a rock. They have been deployed all around the world including Australia. Red flow Technology in Australia have been supplying them for years. Only issue is cost and efficiency.
Get Bowenchris onto it. Sounds like something he should be pushing
So are you all pedophile child rapists or is it just the guys calling the shots
