There are “big problems” for any electric vehicles attempting outback road trips with “much longer distances” between cities than either the US or Europe, according to Agenda C Managing Director Parnell McGuiness.

“At some point, we are going to have to face up to

the fact that renewable energy is actually not cheaper.”

Sky News getting their EV advice from Potato Dutton

Swing and a miss sky 🤣

This is a moot point given that the vast majority of daily trips are short and in cities. But as many comments here show, it’s absolutely possible to drive an EV in the outback.

outbacktesla why oh why did u NOT listen to Sky News. They would have convinced u that the incredible circumnavigation of Australia 🇦🇺 they u did in 2018 was impossible in 2023 !!!! Terrible. Next time I decide to do such a travesty please consult

Ahead_of_Curve why of why did u NOT listen to Sky News. They would have convinced u that the incredible circumnavigation of Australia 🇦🇺 that you guys did was impossible and that u had to buy “clean” diesel cars to make it around Australia 🇦🇺 Now see what u have done 😡

Damn I wish Sky News had told me a 5000km road trip from Perth around the Pilbara and the Kimberly was really hard before we did it.

Meanwhile at the sky news office.

All they need is electricity from any outlet at all. Some are very slow but would still work. I've can carry extra gas but an EV can carry extra batteries. I assume the extra weight would lower overall efficiency?

EVs have been lapping Australia for so long Top Gear ran a story back in 2018 about Sylvia Wilson lemondelicious2

Duh. Blind Freddie could see that.

There’s a panel on exactly that at Fully Charged Live in Sydney on 12 March. All these *insert appropriate word* should be challenged to attend and hear from people who have done what they publicly declare is impossible

I stick with my diesel SUV

SKYNEWS making shit up since 1989

Says here they are a PR company. So what would they know? Maybe ask people who use their EVs on those roads?

Your chat had all of the parochial charm of horse and cart owners before the T Model Ford came along. Here James Massola from the SMH does Sydney-Perth easily in an EV.

The suv mentality “I might need it one day”. Meanwhile most Australians drive less than any EV has range in a day. Recharge overnight start full. And for that outback trip, rent the car you need.

Who cares? The proportion of people driving across the country is extraordinarily low. ICE will probably always have a place as a means of transportation.

well, crap, why didn't you tell me before I crossed Australia in my EV.

We get it Sky. You don't like renewable energy. Evs are the worst thing ever and we'll all die shivering in the streets because of them.

And then add a caravan or camper trailer. See how far they get then....200kms maybe

Parnell is an expert at every!

I want to see the resale price foe a 5 yr old electric car? Batteries are about $30k

LOL What Parnell knows about electric car usage could be written on the head of a match in crayon.
