Amazon will be five years ahead of its original goal to operate on 100% clean energy, the company said. The largest corporate buyer of renewable energy also says it can have a net-zero emissions footprint as soon as 2040.

Delivery giant Amazon.com Inc. made renewable-energy investments in late 2022 that will enable it to operate on 100% clean energy as soon as 2025, five years ahead of its original target, the company said.

“The fact that it announced a new annual record of clean energy in a year mired by a global energy crisis [linked to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine], supply chain bottlenecks, and high interest rates speaks to its forward planning and expertise in navigating power markets and executing long-term contracts,” said Harrison in a release.

“ ‘Amazon’s clean-energy portfolio doesn’t just top the corporate charts — it is now among the leading utilities globally, as well.’” The company’s purchases add new wind and solar projects on the grids that power Amazon’s operations, including Amazon Web Services data centers, Amazon fulfillment centers and physical stores around the world.

It’s not just Amazon itself touting its achievements. The retail disrupter has earned accolades for its reach and ambition from major operators in the clean-energy space.
