It comes as The Commission for Regulation of Utilities told an Oireachtas committee today that a subsidy scheme introduced to help large businesses over a decade ago has been discontinued and domestic customers will be reimbursed.
CRU Chairperson Aoife MacEvilly told the Oireachtas committee that"in March of last year we decided, absolutely, that money will be paid back to domestic customers". "Domestic bills were being charged more than we had directed," Ms MacEvilly said, adding that larger energy users have benefited from this.
Senator Boylan repeated her calls that the total cost of the scheme be clarified, noting that figures including €600m have been mentioned. The CRU chairperson also revealed that"2022 was one of the most challenging periods for the energy sector, and indeed for the CRU, since our inception".
They giving us back 5 euros per year.... when u take inflation into it.... not really saying much is it?
50...cost more to administer... Absolute corrupt pricks..... NOTMYTAOISEACH
€4 a year?
5 euro a year? I'm sure was more than that!! Energy companies Rob us
This is scandalous! This company makes billions of euro in profit all while overcharging their colustomers knowingly! They should be dragged in front of the courts and fined heavily....€50! Piss off. Should be at least €500
EOBroin But hold on. I was a house owner until,August 2017. But still ESB until following year. How can I be compensated?
So that will go to the landlords for renters? Like that one Josephine who rents in Ardara? She splits the bills between apartments...bill is in her name!
Wasn't this decade of theft approved by greenparty_ie EamonRyan ? Clear out this sewer
€50 bless them!
Not a problem too them, they will recoup it all back of us again with further price hikes down the road.
€50 payback is a joke. This scandal along with nursing home and disability payments shows the government cartel for the past few decades are untouchable - probably have their own island like Charlie they can escape to
When am I getting mine?
50 million a year for 12 years of over charging and all we get is 50 euro. Seriously
There is a bigger story about the Pfizer director of research and development and in-house gain of function research. The biggest story of the year is going unreported. Why?
They broke their arses 🤡🤡
I'd wipe my arse with €50.
Absolutely scandelous
So yet another government scandal, corruption at its best . This country is getting worse
Its only 1st of February not 1st of April
€50 for 10 yrs of overcharging seems unacceptable. 600m between Irish households is much more than 50.
1sdddr ,ZSE4FVT³999iiyuytt⁶tt
You're telling me that I was for 144 months which equals, 0.34cent per month worth of compensation... I'm confident they over charged me a lot more!
So they stole 600 million and that split between 1.2 million households is 500 not 50 but hey
Thank fuck
€0.08 per week for the last 12 years. Fantastic. Pulling numbers out of their arses.
we were not overcharged eamon ryan decided to subsidize big business with irish households paying for it.. FACT CHECKED
How do you get this refund if not at address any more?
Energy Regulator shows it’s completely incompetent again and again and again😡
Can’t see if having much impact when the ESB releases its annual results in March for 2022
Will there be compound interest on that to show the loss to individuals by not having the money at the time?
Why do they hate us so much? They try fuck us over every single chance they get
€50 lol
This is a flipping joke surely they can't think this is acceptable ? How do we stop this ? Calculate what u overcharged abd owe people!!! If we owed them money would they be so forgiving ... no chance!!! ESBNetworks cop on
EOBroin Yeah I’m sure €50 will cover the decade of being overcharged 😁👍
So people who moved out of mammy and daddy’s house last year get the same as those in theirs since 2010 or before
Thieving feckers 🤬🤬
What about the interest and penalties we’re all owed ?
Just another scandalous situation where the public are ripped off, and they think 50 euro is proper redress
Yea with €50, just enough to boil the kettle and a slice of toast!!🤬
Regulator’s error - made a decision once upon a time and didn’t bother to monitor or review outcome. Nothing to do with ESB or any other market participants. €50 per household is a nominal compensatory amount.
This is outrageous, first that it was a govt policy and second are we going to get interest in the money they stole from us?
Over 2m households in the 2006 census and approx 50m a year taken… doesnt that work out about €25 a house a year x that by 10 years and hey presto we get€50…. How does it make sense…
So they screwed me for 12 years and now they want to give me €50. 😳. No prostitute would accept that.
What’s new? This is the norm for everything here in Ireland! We’re being overcharged for everything here for decades!!! It’s Rip Off Ireland
So they over charge for 10 years and want to pay everyone €50 is the ESB having a laugh ! With the profits they make. So if we take the €50 we are saying this is ok .😡 what’s that per day 😡
Why the f*** are domestic customers subsidizing large companies in the first place ?
50 euro for a decade of overcharging
Consumers who have been overcharged up to a €100 per annum for god knows how many yrs will only get €50 in full settlement. Disgraceful people need to be compensated in full.
Nationalize them and start building the wind farms WindsofChange ✝️
LNBDublin What if I don't currently live in Ireland?
It's getting more shameful by the day
What about the interest on the overcharge of €50m over 12 years? Based on rates, the interest should be in the hundreds of thousands....send to PMVTrust or other housing agencies
It's 50 euro for 10 years of overcharged customer = 140 euro per month but no tax or vat who made figures up
2 euro rebate
Why were consumers subsidising large energy users like data centres? Why do all administrative errors result in you losing? And when will those that feed into the grid their payments due since last April?
Recieves compensation. Andrew tate: what colour is your bugatti Me: ESB blue lad
Have they decided to compensate having discovered their error now, backdating it to March? Or discovered it in March and still not paid it?
Works out well weekly for the compensation
I’d love to meet the mathematician that had to calculate the true compensation needed for each customer. Imagine their shock when it came to exactly €50 each?! 😳esb
Unbelievable or should I say dumbelievable 12 years to figure this out
Sure the payout will be miniscule compared to the profits they've made over the the last 12 months.
Calm down, it's 50 euro!
Surely it depends on the amount of electricity you used in that period?
Young people who have been forced to rent for years, forced to move from place to place because of rent increases, us who will never own a home. We won't see a penny paid back. It will be paid out entirely to the landlord class.
And people are supposed to have faith in the current system? If you're not a skeptic then you are just naive.
When ? With interest ? I won't hold my breath waiting !!
So what happens if you lived at multiple addresses during this period. Will all bills be refunded or only currently registered accounts.
Well done, LNBDublin!
