Anyway, that’s not the point. The point is that I was listening with half an ear to CBC and these two fellows were chatting about glorious prospects for Newfoundland’s oil-production industry. Apparently, we have a bright future as oil suppliers to the world. The market’s thirsty for it, and our oil is about as good as it gets, so what’s not to love, eh?'We can do the work' but Trades NL says it's not safe to assume Bay Du Nord will bring construction work to N.L.

It could have been an old tape from the 1950s, except that we didn’t know we had vast oil deposits under the Grand Banks in the 1950s, did we? We were still patiently setting our cod traps and hauling our trawls, delighted to get enough fish to finance us through the winter. I can’t help wondering what the corporate elite are planning to do, when our poor old planet ceases to support human life.
