A government spokesperson said: “The Energy Price Guarantee’s support rates are under continual review and the Government continues to work with Ofgem and energy suppliers to ensure that consumers pay the fairest price possible for their energy.”, which sets the cap, previously said updating the price cap quarterly would go “some way to provide the stability needed in the energy market”.

The regulator added: “It is not in anyone’s interests for more suppliers to fail and exit the market.”
