The Community Foundation NI said donations from the £600 payment could assist it in helping those most vulnerable

Donations from people's £600 energy payment could go a long way to helping the most vulnerable in society, the Community Foundation NI has said.

"We're just saying if you feel you can donate, we will make sure it's safely taken in and makes a real impact where it goes. "For those families of older people who are isolated, or people on low income, or for families with disabilities or young parents, this is a really tough time."That breaks my heart a bit and I don't know why we're not jumping up and down about that."

Jonny Currie is the NI Network Lead there and said they were seeing some frightening new developments. "Foodbank use is up across the board, the first six months of this year we had 10,000 people in NI accessing one of our foodbanks for the first time. "Some new trends that we're seeing is that roughly 1 in 5 people who are accessing our foodbanks have someone in the house who is in work," he said.
