JUST IN: Scientists at Exxon accurately predicted how much global warming would occur from burning fossil fuels in research beginning in 1977, a study finds, but the company sowed doubt about the science anyway — helping to delay federal climate action.

in recent years, including heat waves, droughts and floods. The researchers found, for example, that Exxon's own modeling charted this kind of temperature increase.

"This issue has come up several times in recent years and, in each case, our answer is the same: those who talk about how 'Exxon Knew' are wrong in their conclusions," wrote ExxonMobil spokesman Todd Spitler in a statement. "ExxonMobil's understanding of climate science has developed along with that of the broader scientific community," said Spitler. He said"well intended, internal policy debates" have been recast by some"as an attempted company disinformation campaign."

Looks like Exxon was right about waiting and see...and the Merchants of Consensus are wrong.

Well, since global warming, or climate change” for that matter doesn’t exist. The only correct prediction would be zero!

If you believe this stuff stop using there products & they will go away

Climate alarmists will discredit anyone that has been remotely associated with fossil fuel companies but all of a sudden they are the authority on global warming. You hypocrites can't have it both ways. There is NO climate emergency. climate exxonknew ClimateActionNow

Sounds like the NFL and CTE.

There is no global warming issue. Stop this BS, federal climate action, what a scam!

How many scientists didn’t ‘accurately predict’ global temperature variations? How does their modelling hold up now? And does it back test?

What warming…

That’s funny because I remember in the 1970s other scientists telling us were headed for an ice age & fossil fuels were all but exhausted.

When oil companies fund anti climate change, they are bad. When they fund pro migration polc8es they are good. Both instances are naked capitalism

Not surprised..

stop with the bullshit

Nope

Sounds like they should be using their record profits to pay to fix it, instead of forcing those costs on everyone else while making more $ in the process. Or the industry should be nationalized, for US energy security.

Nothingburger. Consumers demanded fuel and were provided it at low cost. The environment has never been more suitable for human flourishing.

Profits over people, amiright exxonmobil ?

It's one thing to phase out fossil fuels for energy. It's another to phase out fossil fuels for the multitude of other things they are used for. One 42-gallon barrel of oil creates 19.4 gallons of gasoline. The rest (over half) is used to make things like👇. climate energy

According to Al Gore we were supposed to be underwater 7 years ago.

The SAME conspiracy nuts that think that the ClimateEmergency isn't real... ...were the first ones in line to join the QAnonCult. (🤪)

No, they didn't. This lie comes to life again and again, is proven to be untrue, disappears for a while, and then comes back again.

Like the late physicist Stephen Hawking warned, greed and stupidity will end the human race.

Maybe the politicians and elites will come out of their ocean front homes and take their private jets and tell us peasants not to eat meat and drive a prius

Oh no! When is it going to acid rain? I think California and NY are going to be under water any day now! Quick, pay more taxes !

Thinking my extremely freedom of speech thoughts

Why write about °C and then show a dramatic chart in °F?

It's in here, too, in detail going back to the 1950's: AAKnopf

Predicting the future is not science.

NerdPyle Of course they did…

There is no climate crisis, so there’s that.

The rich want to warm the planet so they can mine arctic, It's all about money!

Of course they fucking knew.

Science 101, the Earth will burn up like every other planet whether it is populated or not

Let’s just let it burn Down this earth is a shit hole

I’m not surprised, why are you? Corporate greed kills us.

Oh please , anyone with half a brain who was conscious during the 70s knew the impact of fossil fuels on the environment. I was barely awake then but it was too obvious to miss. Give me a break. They were all in on taking the $$ now you want to say you were mislead. Come on!

$$$

They should be prosecuted for this. They won't, but should be.

Or did they?

CalesMcGinnis More bullshit

Interesting such climate irresponsibility now headline MSM news& rightly so yet thought environmental groups have made mention fossil fuel corporates knew decades ago their activities would bring on a climateemergency for quite a long while now... climatecrisis climateaction

Wait until you hear about Pfizer

'Climate change / global warming' is disinformation and a hoax, anyway.

Biden illegal Classified Top Secrete documents found at his private home- in the Garage🤣🤣🤣...you can't make this stuff up! Brandon, “How could that possibly happen?” “How could he be that irresponsible?”“what data was in there that may compromise sources and methods?”

James Hansen testified in front of Congress about the dangers of global warming and you want to blame Exxon for lack of Federal climate action? Really? 🤦

ExxonMobil committed a crime against humanity. One that will have devastating consequences for decades if not centuries.

You mean the counter report to the science at the time which was totally wrong? Ice age? Yeah ok 😂😂🤡🤡

Listen to the interview if you are all 'that's nothing new'

I've seen this before, but RT'ing because I'm sure it is still new for many. Which is exactly the problem 👍

They should all be tried at The Hague

So? I predict ill fart sometime today

NPR finally watched frontlinepbs three part series on this very topic.

MichaelEMann had it in his book years ago.Worth repeating but attribution.🤷‍♂️

'Delay', fully prevent, either one

Lolz. Leonard Nimoy in 1970s telling us the earth was freezing. Half the world's problems now stem from Millennials et al with little to no knowledge of history.

They knew, my whole fucking life...

MikePerryavatar Private Empire by Steve Coll covered this extensively. They absolutely knew and very intentionally went about making sure the information was silenced and or discredited.

This is literally Old News

we’ve known this for years - but - please shout it out to everyone over and over again bc apparently no one is listening

And they’ll get away with it

Just in?

MikePerryavatar There will be zero consequences for this.

Koch Bros wrote the playbook that many corporations use to today to confuse public

Please explain.

Putting it on thick today. Snagging to distract the brain washed.

Because of course they did

As always, activist bollocks

Arriadna “JUST IN” Didn’t Scientific American write this 7 1/2 years ago?

It’s unbelievable that OUR TAX DOLLARS fund you for pushing every damn Democratic narrative.

There is a documentary called Black Gold that came out last year that tracked and explained all this.

But there is no evidence anything Exxon did would make any measurable difference. For example a global 10% decline in CO2 emissions in 2020 made no measurable difference in rate of atmospheric CO2 increase. None. Nada. ZIP

Stop it!!! Lol.

Liar liar pants on fire.

Known this for 20 years. Did they forget to pay their monthly propaganda bill from NPR?

Does this mean that all climate change prevention efforts have failed since '77? Surely whatever model they had hadn't accounted for the billions dumped into this worldwide, so how is their prediction accurate still?

So let's use their model - no need for NOAA

Yep ExxonKnew

No shit.

Ok. Hold this thought tightly. Now pretend Exxon were a pharmaceutical company with a once in a lifetime product to sell to every man, woman, and child. And asked to hide the data for another lifetime. How do you feel now?

If there ever was a company that deserves a death sentence it would be Exxon Mobil.

a woe man discovered global warming in 1856

Isn't it properly referred to as 'climate change?' You know, just in case nothing actually changes?

I swear we knew about those Exxon cover-up like 5 years ago.

Reminiscence of Big Tobacco

How is this 'Just in?' We have known about Exxon doing this for years.

So.. it had little to no effect
