Eight large-scale batteries will be built across Australia by 2025 as part of measures to keep energy prices down, the federal government says.

The government-owned ARENA has allocated $176 million for the projects.Eight large-scale batteries to store renewable energy will be built around Australia to support the grid and help keep energy prices down, the federal government says.

"Some people say the sun doesn't always shine and the wind doesn't always blow and that's true, but we can store renewable energy for when we need it," he told reporters outside the Transgrid battery in Western Sydney. The batteries will come online by 2025 and together would be big enough to power Tasmania for about three hours.

ARENA says the completion of the eight battery sites will result in a "tenfold increase in grid forming battery storage capacity across the grid".Queensland will be home to two, at Mount Fox and Western Downs, while South Australia will also have two, at Bungama and Blyth. "Renewable energy is the cheapest form of energy, the more renewable energy we have in the system, the cheaper bills will be," he said.ARENA CEO Darren Miller said the batteries could underpin the transition to renewable energy in Australia.

This is a very expensive ruse. It won't work & the tech numbers prove it.

Which in reality means higher electricity prices.

Our tax money goes toward buying very expensive batteries that have to replaced every 8 years and only provide backup for 15-20 minutes in the name of reducing our electricity costs. It will be even more expensive because Lithium prices nearly doubled In 2022.

An egregious misallocation of skilled labour, taxpayers money and scarce, toxic resources. We still cannot back up base load power at scale. Physics beats platitudes

Looks like prime farming land too

What a load of bullshit. It has nothing to do with making electricity cheaper - it's purely for environmental reasons. You can't get a cheaper battery than having virtually unlimited amounts of gas & coal on tap.

They break both your legs and then offer to sell you crutches. SlaveryThroughEnergy

So an incredibly expensive battery that can be drained in a few minutes is going to keep energy prices down. I often wonder if the people who put forward this idea know the difference between a mWh and a mW. I doubt it.

matter above clean special broke

came heat

Whenever I need to keep my energy prices down, I always buy a large battery That solves every problem
