He said the congregation sees the effects of the climate crisis and wanted to do its part to make a difference. Church officials began looking at incorporating greener energy at the church. The concept of harnessing solar power was brought up and they began looking into it as a possibility. “One of the guys in our church lives out that way … and bumped into him and one thing led to another,” said Heffernan of the chance meeting with Allen.Heffernan said a lawyer worked out an agreement with Thermo Dynamics and they are now proceeding with having 98 solar panels installed.
Heffernan said the congregation understands the start-up costs for solar energy projects is steep and many individuals can’t afford the initial investment. But he said in the long-run, the upgrades will pay dividends to anyone that can go green.But Windsor Baptist Church isn’t the only one embarking on energy efficient upgrades. is in the middle of capturing energy from the sun as well.
