Live: Energy price hikes on national cabinet agenda as state and territory leaders meet with PM

Fri 9 Dec 2022 at 4:46amIf you missed it this week, federal and state-level governments have unanimously signed on to develop an energyto be available to increase electricity supply at a moment's notice.

The mechanism is designed to fill any gaps in supply by covering generator costs when prices are low and recouping that money when prices are higher.says the "capacity investment scheme" will "unleash" $10 billion worth of investment and 6 gigawatts of renewable dispatchable power — that is, energy that can be stored and used at-will.

"It will firm-up our grids, providing extra capacity as more and more power stations leave the power grid. As more and more coal-fired power stations inevitably close, we will firm the grid going forward," Mr Bowen said.

The OZ media is yet to figure out what he said

Labor is also pissing in the wind like the previous LNP did. The whole private/government energy sector is an utter expensive fiasco. Electricity is a life essential utility which should be in public hands and managed federally with short/medium/long term investment strategies

Pathetic Albo

There is absolutely no reason why energy should be rising. We own the coal. We own the gas. Do your job Albanese

Energy price hikes are the direct result of liberal environmental policies of scarcity. Its assault on humanity via climate policies hurts the poor and disadvantaged the hardest and has absolutely zero impact on the environment. Maybe their goal is fewer people. Starve them?

Albo believed 'sovereign risk' crap promoted by gas exporters We own the resources we need to get a cut when they r paying zero tax Norway is getting tons more tax

Where is my cheap power Mr Garrison.

We all knew that electing Labor meant economic (and social) pain. I hate to think what his “solutions” will be.

Labor lied to the electorate ..End of story .

The root cause is this man who shut down energy piplelines, has printed more money than anyone else in the entire universe, started a proxy war with Russia and blew up the Nordstream gas pipeline. So the question is, what is ALBO going to do about BIDEN?

Current renewables are regularly supplying 55%+ of our daily energy needs which is great. So can the AlboMP please explain why this hasn't had the predicted outcome of cheaper electricity prices that you all keep repeating. LilyDAmbrosioMP Bowenchris

It’s so good that Aussies fell for Albo’s lies about power prices and cost of living. Now he can push his renewable agenda really hard to make investors and big business super rich all paid for by skyrocketing prices to ensure the people pay for the rich to get richer.
