National Grid set to begin emergency winter strategy to avoid blackouts tomorrow after drop in French reserves
The National Grid is set to activate its emergency winter strategy on Tuesday and pay households to cut their power usage in order to take the strain off the the UK’s energy supply. The scheme, which officially launched earlier this month, works by paying households to reduce their electricity usage at certain times to prevent unplanned power outages. This comes as forecasters warned that margins would also be tight in France on Monday evening after low temperatures and months of problems with the country’s nuclear power stations.
