Brookfield’s Stewart Upson is front and centre as the firm works to firm up an $18.4 billion bid for Origin Energy, made alongside EIG Partners., and advised by Citi and UBS . Origin has Barrenjoey Capital and Jarden in its corner. Brookfield’s a big player in Australian and global deals and a huge client for all the major Wall Street and European banks. It would’ve been hit with calls from bankers in Australia, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, working every angle. The most obvious one is cheap funding.Interestingly, it’s Japanese bank MUFG that has been welcomed into the Brookfield tent for Origin.
