Former resources minister Keith Pitt has weighed in on the Albanese government's proposed plan to drive down energy prices and says the Australian taxpayer 'is the one that gets it in the neck'.

It comes after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese refused to rule out a tax on coal and gas in attempt to lower energy prices amid a possible market intervention.

Nationals MP Keith Pitt slams Labor as Anthony Albanese ponders new tax plan on coal and gas. Picture: NCA NewsWire / Martin Ollman The Nationals MP described the situation of a"poor farmer" who he believes would be most affected by the tax. Mr Pitt's comments come after Mr Albanese said the measure was not “our preference” but flagged that the government was “working through the issues constructively” with the states and territories.

The proposed tax would aim to drive down energy prices at a time where Australians can expect a 50 per cent and 40 per cent increase in electricity and gas costs over the next two years.

They’re two wings of the same vulture, get rid of them all, we need a grass roots community government, not these corrupted bureaucrats

I’m positively shocked!

By 'weighing in' do you mean having a whinge about something he never bothered fixing when he had the chance? Asking for a friend.

Former 😂

Pitt is….well…he’s the pitts!

Opposition are opposed, rain wet, actual news?

Oil company subsidies are fine though hey?

What if we stop calling it windfall tax and start calling it tax, like every other business and company pays that doesnt contribute to the pollies campaign. Live, work, pay tax, one standard to rule them all.

This Keith Pitt? You reckon these guys would stay silent.

Albo can return to his childhood but for many Australians they're on their own.

LaborLies Energy prices skyrocket - not fall. Renewables are not cheaper - even with huge subsidies.

Former =irrelevant

Taxpayer getting it in the neck.

Someone should tell Keith to just fuck off and do something useful!

Pitt should keep his mouth shut, the hypocrisy of LNP MPs like him who did SFA for the past 9 years, have audacity to question the new Labor Govt trying to fix the mess they have left behind.

Liar

NINE fùcking years!!

Nationals don't want Albo to hurt their mates, paying a little of what they really owe. How sad.

I didn't know you were doing comedy. Peta Credlin excels at being pointless and useless .. Congrats skynews. Her Dan Andrews report was so laughable.

Cooker Pitt says what now?

We already have it in the neck thanks to Morrison, Pitt, Angus and the goon squad
