Emissions from oil will likely rise more than 2% compared to last year, while emissions from coal - thought by some to have peaked in 2014 - will hit a new record

Emissions from oil, fuelled by the continuing rebound in aviation, will likely rise more than 2% compared to last year, while emissions from coal - thought by some to have peaked in 2014 - will hit a new record.

Despite the wild cards of pandemic recovery and an energy crisis provoked by war in Ukraine, the uptick in carbon pollution from burning oil, gas and coal is consistent with underlying trends, the data suggested. Barely 1.2C of warming to date has unleashed a crescendo of deadly and costly extreme weather, from heat waves and drought to flooding and tropical storms made more destructive by rising seas.

To have a 50/50 chance of staying under the 1.5C limit, humanity's emissions allowance is 380 billion tonnes of CO2, according to the study in Earth System Science Data, authored by more than 100 scientists.

All that energy, plastic and pharmaceuticals. For so little oil. Truly a miraculous product.

Co2 is not a pollutant regardless of what the climate cult nutters say.Co2 in the atmosphere is 0.04%. 97% of Co2 is produced by nature and not by mankind. Ireland's contribution to this so insignificant as to be irrelevant. Is rte obsession with climate change pathological

Don't know who's burning coal in Ireland at €35 to €40 per bag. PER BAG! we could set everything on fire in Ireland, it wouldn't even make a blip on cLImAte CHanGe.

Why dont you glue your head to a train track, that might get you on 6 one news as a delay to services.

Thank the Greens. We should be going nuclear, not propeller power.

What a load of shite
