Some homes will be offered up to £100 off their bills if they cut peak-time energy use, in National Grid trial to avoid winter blackouts

Households have been warned of power cuts lasting up to three hours at a time if gas supplies run extremely low, and National Grid is hoping the new scheme can, along with other measures, prevent that happening.

The scheme is also open to businesses which could, for example, change production schedules or switch to batteries or generators at peak times. "We can all do our little bit, we can shift demand out of that peak and help maintain security of supply throughout the winter."Octopus Energy has already announced it will participate. It operated a trial scheme with 100,000 customers earlier this year, offering a much smaller discount for people who shifted their energy use away from peak times.

Gas flows from Russia to Europe have been disrupted since its invasion of Ukraine, leaving countries scrambling for alternative supplies, which could have a knock-on effect on Britain.

You have to have a smart meter…my supplier tells me I can’t have one yet. Other older meters have to be replaced first before it’s my turn. Must be millions of households facing the same issue.

UK is moving closer to “flawed democracy” status, according to an international index that champions freedom, civil liberties & good governance. The UK dropped 2 places in the global democracy rankings, with experts citing a series of scandals that have undermined trust in govt.

Not unless you've got a smart meter, even if your a low user ...

Arron Banks had multiple meetings with Russian embassy officials in the run-up to the Brexit ref. If deals were brokered with Russian govt help, it would raise urgent questions about Russian interference in our democracy. We urgently need Arron Banks to answer these questions.

Dear customer. Thank you for installing a smart meter, in order to control usage, we will be activating the remote kill switch we installed so you can't use electricity. Thank you for supporting the WEF Nazi agenda. BBCNews BBCLondonNews

How is this fair for customers who are not able to have smart meters due to the poor signal in their area? We are also still not receiving any help with being on oil heating! We are being discriminated against for living in rural areas mattwarman

Why arent they allowing people to install small grid-tie solar systems without permission? If its under 400w it shouldnt stress the infra and would actually benefit the system. FTLOG roll this out for places like bus shelters, lamp posts, public buildings etc

Just boil enough water in your kettle when you make your tea, that’s my tip.

And all we hear from the BBC is Climate Fear Porn...

Sounds like a great idea. I’m happy to do this if it helps, Why all the negativity?

I see octopus are doing this but I am going to miss out because I’ve not got a smart meter which I’ve been asking for over 10 months

BritishGas So my smart meter stopped working Jan 2020 and I have touched base with BG on numerious times and dispite their record profits, they keep on telling me they have me on the list for a new SM, yet on their website they peddle this:

Why cant we do temperature based charging? Bare with me? If your thermostat is EG 17 in your house and you put your heating on. You are charged more per unit than someone who puts it on when its 5-15 degrees. EG if it snowing in inverness and warmer dawn saaf. Get me? ofgem
