Opinion: Premier Doug Ford is facing a reckoning for his reckless rhetoric. And we are all paying a price, yet again, for cheap talk by a politician with short planning horizons. Suddenly, we are short of power.

Doug Ford first won political power by generating more heat than light.Belatedly, Ford’s Tories are sounding the alarm: Behold their red alert over looming brownouts.the sprawling nuclear power station in the eastern GTA — by one year and possibly a decade — is cutting it awfully close. Too close for comfort.

It’s not the new nuclear plan that’s unnerving, but the lack of planning, which has left us in the lurch. How did we get to this point? But what if, perchance, Pickering doesn’t pass the test? There will be plenty of red faces over brownouts, starting with the premier and the previous energy minister, Greg Rickford, who dropped the ball during the previous four years of Progressive Conservative government.

Torontonians benefit from among the lowest electricity rates in North America — paying less than Calgarians , and far less than residents of most American cities, according to Hydro-Québec’s annual report. But those low prices come at a high cost to the treasury, thanks to annual subsidies approaching $7 billion a year — which amounts to all taxpayers subsidizing ratepayers to consume power as they please.

Was there a reckoning for Mike Harris? So far he's living a life with no consequences. Conservatives never really face a reckoning so why would Doug Ford? If Ford didn't face a reckoning in the last prov election for the way he 'handled' COVID why would he face any in the future?

I get it that this is “tagged” as an opinion piece BUT this is clearly biased against Doug Ford right from the headline and he/she wants everyone to share it. It would be better to provide an unbiased view, share the facts and let the reader decide.

Gradually and then suddenly!

Are the lefties still angry about the conservative majority? 😂😂😂

You guys are getting worse by the day holy moly.

Just how much money did he spend in penalties cancelling those initiatives that we could be spending on nurses and health care today. Wake up people. This is not the kind of government we need.

And you wonder why readership is down 🙄

So it's Fords fault eh..?

So is the Red Star. About to sold off for chump change. Oh well, when you degenerate into leftist propaganda pamphlets, I guess these things happen. Lmao!! Bye bye Red Star! 😂

You need to be a total dolt if you think nuclear is not the smart move

So unbiased

Stop the BS This drama is to justify refurbish contract. Pushing E cars and no power lol. Friggin disaster

Lol

Why Ont. is extending Pickering power plant's lifeThe Ontario government says a dramatic spike in the need for energy is why they are looking to extend the life of Pickering's nuclear plant. Cheaper to create our own power, rather then import it. With ALL our 'top' scientists and shit can't we grow hemp fields and make hemp oil and make shit run off hemp oil? Legit asking.... why don't we grow and harvest and produce hemp products.... They extended Fukishima's life too. I wonder how that worked out. Different models, I know.
