The government has agreed to increase weekly social welfare payments and the state pension by €12 going forward, RTE News reports.
The budget package has been estimated to exceed the €6.7billion figure which was outlined in the Summer Economic Statement. In an effort to tackle rising energy costs, it has been reported that each household in the country will be paid three €200 credits overall.Other measures expected to be announced include a double child benefit payment for families, free textbooks for primary school children from September 2023.
Childcare costs are set to be addressed with fees to be halved by 50% over the next two budgets, with a reduction of €200 due this year.
