A proprietary DC-DC converter allows the LFP cells to provide most of the energy needed for an electric car in normal daily driving while the anode-free batteries act as range extenders. Ijaz toldthat the LFP cells cover 99% of a vehicle’s duty cycle and the range extender is used for 1%. One of Ijaz’s objectives is to eliminate the use of expensive battery materials like cobalt that must be sourced from foreign suppliers, and to develop local supply chains. Gemini reduces graphite and nickel by 75% and fully eliminates cobalt for a more secure supply chain, the company says.
