Micheál Martin was speaking after People Before Profit said people would be “more than justified” in refusing to pay their spiralling bills.
“I think that would be chaotic,” he said. “It would be bad advice because we need to keep a sustainable approach. Energy price protests have already been held in a number of European cities – with images online showing people in Naples burning their energy bills in front of the city’s Town Hall.Mr Martin said there is “no great evidence” of people planning similar protests in Ireland.
Havoc for the CEO's bonuses he means. Time for 'Can't pay, won't pay'.
Time to Protest like The French do !!!!!!!
It's time to create havoc. We are being robbed blind
Then havoc shall be created
Maybe people should stop paying bills and taxes altogether, why on earth do incompetent leaders deserve working peoples money just to overspend on everything
Withdraw from Direct Debit payments immediately...Do not accept a pay as you use meter. Enter a payment plan if in arrears..Do not be bullied.
No cap ?MM and Leo equally as bad and as their respective parties Get real ye ‘re not wanted Go off now and do the country a favour More worried about housing refugees than native Irish Etc etc
What will it take to get it through to Mr Martin that the current system doesn't work. Its not people won't refuse to pay their bills, its just they won't be able to pay them. Wake up man. People are hurting because your government have failed in every way possible 😡
At least theyd listen
CancelDirectDebits
We're in huge debt anyway, stop giving our taxes to ukrainians
They’d miss the precious vat for their pay rises and perks.
Might make you get off your hole and cap energy prices like other European nations !
The havoc is coming either way. People CANNOT pay, its that simple. Either don't pay and get into debt or do pay and starve to death. Not much choice there is there?
People want to see price caps but tell me this: if energy prices are priced in dollars on international markets and we must buy from those international markets, how are we going to set prices for other countries' resources?
I'll be paying what I usually did, going by my last year of bills.. No more...
There must be rumblings of this..........
FF logic! 🤣 We all better be getting a 6k pay increase like our politicians so because we simply won't have the money to pay them. Same with taking in ukraine refugees. There is no logic in what MichealMartinTD says. It makes no sense. Its all nonsense.
People are only acting because you are not. Even worse when you are blatently standing by Robert Troy. Your PR Company needs fired
“Sanctions on a main EU energy provider that can not be replaced will create havoc” if our leaders has any competence to assure the most basic needs of their countries we would not be here today on the verge of standard of life abyss in europe.
Our corrupt government is allowed continue its corruption because the Irish people are so compliant. I wonder what would happen if the Irish grew a backbone and stood up to these greedy politicians
When prices are gone the way they are , people have every right to refuse to pay for it......its as simple as not being able to.
Let’s cause havoc then
There's a difference in not paying it and not being able to pay it
Well it's MichealMartinTD EamonRyan LeoVaradkar and the government parties fault if it comes to that, they went along with the sanctions on Russian oil and gas,as planned by Klaus Schwab the WEF and the EU. Were did protecting granny go,it's ok for her to freeze and starve now
Knowing this country if enough people did it they would get away with it. It would be the hard working decent people who pay everything in this country who would end up paying for the rabble little tantrums in the long run.
This is correct, energy companies will accumulate the debt. Its a stupid idea. Protests out side energy companies head office is better.
Course the weasel would say that..
MichealMartinTD Mass inability to pay energy bills will also cause havoc. What do you propose people do?
what about the poor shareholders?
jfk2005 That’s a you problem Michael.
The EU and the dail have no intention of easing up on their evil policies.
And what part of take control of the energy market don’t you understand.
How much heat would be generated by burning newstalk and the dail to the ground?
This energy 'crisis' was all manufactured by your own politicians policy. They don't want to help you
THE CURRENT SYSTEM 😂 😆😆 a government system for politicians only. Of course there won’t be protests with Irish people burning their electricity bills. Irish people are sheep, conformist and totally self indulgent. MichealMartinTD fears people stepping up for their dignity
Let the havoc begin
Martin 'people need to permit being ass raped by whatever private companies and our buddies demand no matter how high it gets'. It is inconceiveable for a peasant to not follow the orders of the EU and our county council in the Dail..
It would very likely backfire on the people who refused to pay. The politicians who advocate this would delight in the chaos but won’t be there to help after the damage is done. It would likely impact future ability to get a loans/mortgages for example.
I think it might be time to bring back lynching 😁
Wouldn’t “creating havoc” be the entire point of refusing to pay?
Don't pay your energy bills or propaganda tv license either
This government is creating havoc by inviting half the world over and banning the use of turf and coal so people can freeze to death
Mass refusal doesn't need to happen. Simply pay the amount that you were paying back in February 2022. Don't pay a cent more. They can't cut you off for paying an amount. This is a political blunder that FFG have ballsed up. Why should we suffer because of their failure?
