The Government is likely to opt for more electricity credits rather than seeking to cap householders’ and businesses’ bills, Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath has indicated

However, he said that the UK proposal would involve “a large amount of borrowing” by the state which was not for now envisaged in Ireland. The Government has not examined a system of capping bills but officials had been working for some time on plans for more electricity credits, Mr McGrath said.

He added he expected some of the energy supports were likely to be paid in the first quarter of next year. Officials are also working on a package of business supports which may extend electricity credits to businesses, sources say. One senior Government figure suggested that hundreds of thousands of jobs were in danger if businesses were not given help with their bills. On Monday, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar told a pre-budget consultation with representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises that the budget would contain a package of business supports.

Why is this absolute khunt in the photo?

Another nail in the FF coffin

THEY WILL NEVER CHANGE. They don't get it, they didnt understand what we wanted change from in the last GE. It was their type of politics, favouring private business over the public over n over. Destroying services with privatisation. This is more of it, protecting them over us.

We need to block this and insist on capping the prices, do the government really think the Irish people are that stupid that we don't this massive transfer of wealth?!?

Your killing your people. FOR WHAT. TO LINE YOUR POCKETS. stay away from the elderly during lockdown, kill them off with the price of fuel. DISGRACEFUL 😡

Is the government likely to wheel out any more sleeveens for photo shoots to sabotage their slim chance of re election?

They should do both, but seems they're afraid of the big corporations

Ah yes, FF the creative thinkers

Making the energy companies richer all funded by Johnny taxpayers

What a photo 🤣
