Energy Energy Headlines News

The EU Energy Commissioner has said managing energy demand will be key to avoiding blackouts in Europe this winter and citizens will have to play their part

Speaking exclusively to RTÉ News, Kadri Simson said a lot of work has been done to diversify the supply of energy, but that"now we also have to look into the demand side".

It aims to promote offshore wind energy and the development of offshore grids. The Dublin meeting has agreed to a target of 260GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050 - this represents more than 85% of the EU target of 300GW for 2050. "So, if governments will designate special areas where environmental restrictions are not so restrictive, we hope that offshore wind projects can be developed significantly faster."

She added that the design of the EU energy market has worked so far, in that it has helped to avoid blackouts. She said the commission will present a full winter energy security plan tomorrow and that will require the approval of the council of energy ministers adding that it seems they will meet"very often".

The goverment and the energy companies are the only players. We have no part to play at all. They love to blame individual action for everything, when it is ALWAYS the companies and governments that cause, and refuse to fix these messes.

Keep voting for the greens, this is what zero emissions will be like, soaring energy prices and regular blackouts.Could you imagine what the energy situation would be like if we all had electric cars.People will die because they couldn't afford to heat their homes. Thanks Eamon.

Can I assume that it might be more energy efficient to use a couple of electric space heaters to heat the couple of rooms a person is using rather than turn on gas fired central heating for the whole house? Never was too sure which is worse.

No. 'Have to play our part'? We have no part in this crisis, we're on the receiving end of it. There is absolutely zero responsibility for this mess that falls onto us. You created it - you solve it.

Bacik: More targeted measures needed to tackle energy crisisMore targeted measures to tackle the cost of living would save the government money and help those 'most grieved', Ivana Bacik TD has said. Till she gets elected into government and its allllll forgotten Generally agree..Those most in need should be reassured by measures aimed at them! But, it's OK too to acknowledge that there's also a band of citizenry living not too far above the standard means test rules. And I not only welcome the universal energy cashback, I need it too Rember they got elected in 2011 and told lies to get it, then lied and attacked those who voted for them and started this homeless crisis ThatcherBurton
