Irish Times journalist Conor Pope turned his attention to the in-studio audience and asked how many people had not switched energy providers in the past 12 months, with more than 60% of the audience members raising their hand. “Because the way the business works is when you move from company A to company B, they give you a discount of up to 40% for the first 12 months. But if you don’t move after the 12 months, you go back up to paying the standard rate which is 40% higher.Conor himself admitted to saving €1,400 and viewers were delighted with his tip.
