But there are some important caveats to consider, because Hanna and his colleagues are modeling a nascent technology rife with unknowns. For instance, they have to make informed assumptions about how much energy the future plants might use, which determines their operation costs. “The other big unknown,” Hanna says, “is how the performance of the system could actually improve, and how the costs of the systems would decline over time, given firms’ experience with building the technology.
Plus, global politics could make a mess of DAC’s rollout: If all humans share the same atmosphere, why would one country pay to research and deploy the technology if their neighbor doesn’t pay a penny? “It's nice to approach things about climate change as if they're just technological problems—if we get the cost right, if we get the technology right,” says Louisiana State University environmental scientist Brian Snyder, who wasn’t involved in this new work.
They’re called “trees”.
(11b3pg3x) could this idea possibly turn into an invasive species: these carbon eating machines would be doing the job normally done by trees. how do you propose to keep from taking too much c02 from the atmosphere?
elonmusk If there is anyone, it could be you the mankind would depend on to bring out a technology out of the box that would work better & cost less. May be a pipeline to suck carbon out of & away 4m earth atmosphere. V know u have enough on your plate already but, “Yes U Can”.
Do you mean trees?
Sounds like sucking it back and then burying it - future problems. Or re-using it as .. fuel - self-defeating. And so many unknowns. Better to learn how to reduce our dependence on energy, & use more of the natural methods. Hate just moving a problem from one location to another
Have to invent them first
I belive we have some pretty high tech machines which do exactly that. I belive the technology is called T.R.E.E.S.
Wtf......we should've had this long, long ago smh 🤦🏿♂️
Do you mean trees 🌴🌳🌲🍁🎋
It seems futile waiting for humans to get their act together and change their ways.
