Russia’s Gazprom said its key gas pipeline to Europe won’t reopen as planned, moving the region a step closer to blackouts, rationing and a severe recession.
“This announcement is just another indication that between ‘technical issues’ and ‘contract disagreements’, a winter with zero Russian gas is the central scenario for Europe,” said Simone Tagliapietra at think-tank Bruegel in Brussels. “Putin seeks to hit Europe where it hurts the most.”With prices four times higher than a year ago, the gas crisis is already forcing shutdowns in European industry and undermining the euro.
“We should reach 90-95 per cent of storage by the winter, so that’s in a much better position, but clearly that is not enough, and it’s still going to be a challenging environment,” Amos Hochstein, the US special presidential coordinator for global infrastructure and energy security, told Bloomberg. He said the US would prioritise Europe for LNG sales.
I'm getting tired of name calling, If the EU has evidence of Russian problems, show the world the proof. Otherwise you're just losing all credibility.
Putin's gas war to spite the west Now it is up to EU to fight or capitulate
