Energy Energy Headlines News

Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has joined his counterparts in Prague for the meeting, which will assess how Europe can enhance its defence procurement

On the agenda will be the suspension of an EU Russia agreement designed to facilitate tourist and business travel for Russian citizens and a plan to provide an EU training mission to the Ukrainian armed forces.

Policies to limit the crippling effects of the war in Ukraine and to support Kyiv’s ability to defend itself are coming thick and fast as what is expected to be a tough economic winter looms. Those prices tend to be artificially raised by the price of gas - an intervention to decouple the two, which has been resisted for months - now appears to be on the cards.

another useless member of this government.

The Common Travel Area applies to UK citizens not Russian citizens. UK visas granted to Russians aren't recognised in Ireland.

Why are we getting involved

The west is totally obsessed with Ukraine. Last year most people couldn't point it out on a map.

There is nothing more contemptible than career politicians discussing a war in which young men are dying while they wine and dine.If they are so keen why don't they go and fight themselves. Somebody should remind that WEF member coveney that Ireland a still neutral country

There’s simoncoveney now with his soft mid Atlantic twang off to Prague to be told what to think. Symtill no sign of us joining NATO? The lads across the pond would love that.

Money wasted. Like Russia is a threat to Ireland. Stay st home Simon and have a general election and watch your weak leader be obliterated by the ballot box. You can't even provide homes or health care for the 4m people. Get real.

When did defence procurement become an EU competence?
