COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Honda plans to help build a new $4.4 billion factory making batteries for electric vehicles somewhere in Ohio, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted shared the WSJ article on Twitter on Monday, tantalizingly promising “more to come soon on this.” But state officials declined to immediately confirm the report. “For almost 40 years, Ohio has been at the center of Honda’s North American vehicle production, and we are working with Honda and LG to ensure that they choose Ohio for this new electric battery plant,” DeWine said.

“Even though there’s the news that was put out there, the governor’s quote is the extent of how far we can go on that,” Tierney said.A spokesman for JobsOhio, the state’s private economic development arm, also declined to comment directly on the Wall Street Journal report.
