Not easy to diagnose or treat, this tick-borne illness can cause long-term complications

Lyme disease is transmitted by bites from infected ticks from deer and other wild animals. Photograph: iStockFuelled by climate change, the incidence of tick-borne Lyme disease is rising in Ireland and across the northern hemisphere — and often leaving a trail of long-term debilitating illness.

Diagnosis of Lyme disease is imperfect: patients may experience a rash; migratory arthritis or Bell’s palsy; “but many may have atypical neurological, rheumatological or cardiological symptoms”.

One study found only 14 per cent of patients recalled a tick bite, only 50 per cent get the classic bullseye rash, and only about 50 per cent have a positive standard Lyme antibody test. As climate impacts progress, each tick season will likely be worse than the last, Vett Lloyd, director of Lloyd Tick Lab at Mount Allison University, New Brunswick, noted recently. “As winters are getting milder and shorter, the ticks are surviving better, and they have more time to feed and have a tick romance. Once a female tick finds a male and food, she can produce for roughly 3,000 eggs. When this starts happening, [the population] explodes very quickly,” he told the Canada Press.

People with suspected infections may consult different specialists “but without multisystem involvement, they may not entertain Lyme as a possible diagnosis. Treatment should be initiated immediately when a rash occurs following a tick bite, or indeed even in cases where the patient is symptomatic without a rash”, Lambert adds.

I would suggest that you do a bit of research in the origins of Lyme disease before blaming everything on climate change hoax.

How much are the Greens paying the Irish Times to print this shit?

Disinformation FakeNews Carry on beclowning yourselves

More trash reporting from a propagandist rag that told you 💉 was 'safe&effective' when the tide turns on you rats we the wakened ppl will make sure your all convicted for crimes against humanity 🖕

Are ye lying again. Now, now.

Haha, another great comedic piece of utter nonsense from the rag that is the IT.

Have to feel sorry for these journalists having to print complete and utter BS

Horseshit. It's not recent. I was taking precautions nd wearing gaiters 25 years ago when out hillwalking. It was well known. The lockdowns during g deer shooting season ghave seen herds explode in size. I see 40 deer grazing every morning where it should be 6 or 7.

Bullshit, lymes disease rises this time every year when the deer shooting season starts and well the scum media know it

fedup42Mn You are going to have to be more subtle with your programming 😂😂🤡🤡

fedup42Mn Scary u are doing stuff for govt dosh....

fedup42Mn But good old BULL SHIT😂😂😂😂

I honestly think Lyme disease is a bioweapon to make people kill deer because they're good nutrition when their planned man made famine starts again and it could just be a bioweapon to weaken ppl so they don't rise as well

Good lord it's a never ending stream of lies

fedup42Mn

Imagine chopping down Trees for this crap

Fuelled by an increase in active travel

fedup42Mn Caught by walking in wooded/ forest areas where ticks are prevalent and not recognising the signs of Lyme's disease quickly enough, no climate bollox necessary!!

bollox

fedup42Mn 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

fedup42Mn

Are you sure it's not fuelled by bullshit? Sure smells like it

🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕...the only disease is the editor Paul O'Neill ....

More likely that is was Made in America, no conclusive proof as of yet but a serious investigation is underway.

Please stop you sound absolutely ridiculous.

fedup42Mn Climate change 😂 honestly, cut the bs 🤡

This is a lie

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'd imagine it's more likely to be fuelled by the experimental mRNA poison that 90% of the population has injected themselves with.. but then, what do I know 🤪

Climate experts spreading infected deer around didn't help either.

What a rag.

Mental health crisis and the rise of fear: Fuelled by the media, pushing the parasite class' agenda.

Climate change my hole

Absolute Bllocks! ClimateScam

Christ

Warning !!! Warning!!!

Quick, tax the plebs more to stop this. 'Fuelled by climate change...' Jesus wept. A bit desperate don't you think? That's when you know this is bullshit. 🤡🌍

The image on this post is showing a dog tick, not a deer tick. Dog ticks don't carry Lyme. A deer tick carries Lyme and is about the size of a poppy seed. They're very small. More Deer = More Lyme.

Ivermectin is the cure

Lukey said that also 🤣🤣🤣

And all the green party solutions are not actually green...lol

Would it have anything to do with the fact that the deer population that was re-introduced are now our of control.

Christ on a fkn bike!!!

Irish Times subscriptions: rising in Ireland and beyond, fuelled by climate change.

This is utter B/S - ticks have always been in Ireland - you get them by going into areas such as hills, high grasslands etc; they used to be called 'bloodsuckers' when I was a kid in the late 60's.

KOSullivanIT What is wrong you Spreading such stupid lies.

Climate change & lyme disease 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 its been around for 30+ yrs at least NO THING TO DO W CLIMATE ...knobs!!

Lime disease always very high in ireland u just woundnt report on it.

climate change lel

IT obsessing with insects this week? Not enough economic horror to sell papers obviously.

The tick pictured, a male Dermacentor variabilis, is neither a vector for Lyme disease, nor found in Europe.

Propaganda to associate it with climate

Just maybe their coming into Ireland on the bleeding bogus refugees

Is there anything climate change isnt responsible for?! The relentless fearmongering is shameful. You are all complicit in the terrible harms being done to peoples mental health.

I prefer to call it Thick-Paddy disease.

Another reason to cull excess deer? As well as the damage to forestry (and methane production).

With Dr Peter McCullough on Lyme disease.

Antibiotics. And don't delay. Not all people get a red bullseye ring. Can result in crippling or debilitating arthritic pain. Can put you flat on your back in a hospital within 6 weeks. Everyone is different. Neighbor caught Lymes in the Ireland in 2019 and still dealing with it.

Another excuse for the side effects of the jibby.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

lockdown, just two weeks to flatten the curve
