Energy Energy Headlines News

The basic problem is that Ireland is facing a scenario where there could be more demand for energy than there is supply

.

While the IDA doesn't like the using the term"moratorium", the reality is that no new data centres have been connected to the electrical grid since July 2020.According to the Central Statistics Office, data centres increased consumption by 32% between 2020 and 2021. In recent months the Government allocated hundreds of millions of euro to ensure there was there would be a security of supply.

All of these difficulties have created a situation where the regulator is now proposing additional tariffs on large electricity users during peak periods between 5pm and 7pm.

Nationalise Energy. Build more windfarms, more hydroelectric dams (it does nothing but rain here), gas storage facilities, get our farmers to produce gas in anaerobic digesters, provide funding of solar panels on houses, invest in nuclear power. Diversify, Re-invest the profits.

' where there could be more demand' are ye all smoking up there in Donnybrook. The state broadcaster.................does Leo & Mehole send ye the soundbites?

Data centres be grand, that’s all that matters.

This is what the greens wanted

Been coming for years with ill thought virtue signalling Green policies with no regard for irelands energy security in the short term. Need to import coal, set up LNG facility in moneypoint, start exploring for oil and gas again and plan for future nuclear option ASAP.

So let’s say you can’t charge your car in the future cos there a power cut or the grid shuts down How do you keep your economy running when you can’t get to work

This is bullshit, don't fucking believe it.

Seriously !! It's just one depressing story after another!! Aon dea scéal? Any good news

Maybe we should shut down RTE to keep lights on. Sounds like a fair trade off

Didn’t the 3 amigos FF, FG and Greens oversee the closure of 2 power stations That could be the problem

When you bring in 48000 Ukrainians and counting plus all the other spongers then like the hospitals housing education demand will outstrip supply it’s called basic math.. but we all know in government 2+2 does not = 4

Would that demand be met if that cabbage headed tosser Ryan hadn't shut down power stations.

NO.. The main problem is we have a bunch of inept characters in Kildare st ,that need to be cleared out at the ballot box!

So stop amazon building 2 mew data centers in Dublin. That might be a good start

Threats of blackouts after energy prices go through the roof - let me guess what the only solution is…. An excuse the raise the prices!

Like we hadn't figured that out already?

Coming soon...

An impending national emergency. Fix it. Coal and peat ASAP 👍🏻

And Michael Martin said he didn't know about this. My Dog knew it was coming and I don't even have a Dog.

Selling our souls for what? First they came in their ships!! Today we invite them in to bleed us of what really matters -Energy Shame on those in charge

The maximum demand on the grid was set on the 21st December......2010! Focusing on wind power only has left the grid in a dire situation, dispatchable renewable power like biomass and biogas needs to be properly supported.

People will want to generate their own power! Will Ireland start a subsidy scheme for private&corporate solar & wind power (eg like Germany had it)? And does Ireland have enough craftsmen to fit the needs for renewable energies (Germany didn’t) or will there be training programs?

I find it odd people using Netflix, Disney plus and Spotify complaining about data centres . There are TDs complaining about data centres on twitter.

Copper costs alone to double the distribution network if we were to push for 50% of the national car fleet make ev’s a tall order. Just as well we’re nuclear via the euro and uk interconnects, we just can’t say anything about that ;-) without affecting our greenwashing

Wake up people we are being taken for a ride .

Well... the Irish voted eyes wide open for eco-austerity. No one to blame but themselves.

Census worked out well. Even the one before the last one laid a few clues. What’s it for again? 🤔🤔

Then let's desupply certain industries that use the most.

so more data centers and get everyone to get an electric car?

Lights go out we burn the data centers 👍

The Green party cause problem

Data centres need to go.

And we are trying to push people into buying EV's😂, I suppose you will always be able to charge the no matter what happens anyway ,vested interest groups & the powers that be will make sure of that & you will pay well for the privilege..💰

Wait till we all have electric cars!

Hmm I wonder has it got anything to do with all the data centres in the country 🤔🤔🤔

Data centres will do that

Candles. Ghost stories, and sleeping in your coat, back to the good old days.

Who’d-a thunk it? Is that how it works? Really? Mind blown. Thanks guys. Keep up the top work 👍

Winter fear porn no pwer the greens be wiped out

EamonRyan 🤡🤡🤡🤡

As always it's down to Political failure .

This potential issue has been discussed on social media and on the likes of The Journal comments section for a long time. That the government can essentially say they have been caught by surprise is laughable.

But, but wind... And solar.... 🤣🤣🤣

No shit Sherlock.

🤣🤣🤣🤣. Another potential crisis. Sure all you can do is laugh at this stage. We’ll be running out of air next.

The basic problem = datacenters

Relax/speed planning process for offshore wind farms. Madness one of the largest in the world was looking at doing it here and pulled out because government was dragging it feet
