The state will have no option but to reduce electricity demand or face blackouts this winter, as planned emergency power generators will not be in place in time, the Business Post can reveal.

The Commission for Regulation of Utilities and Eirgrid are now plotting new “peak demand” and “system stress” tariffs that

will charge large energy users, mainly data centres, extremely high rates at peak times or when the system is in an “alert” ...
