The threat of households refusing to pay their rocketing energy bills presents a challenge to whoever succeeds Boris Johnson as PM and may place additional strain on household energy suppliers as they grapple record wholesale costs.

The campaign also chimes with multiple union battles for wage increases in line with the rate of inflation - currently at a 40-year high of 9.4% - that have mainly led to disruptive strikes by rail and other transport workers to date.

"While no government can control global gas prices, we are providing £37bn of help for households including the £400 discount on energy bills, and £1,200 of direct support for the most vulnerable households to help with the cost of living." A spokesperson for Don't Pay said:"Our politicians and the oil and gas corporations have designed an energy system that only channels money and profits upwards, no matter the human cost.

Doesn't work for me. I'm pay as you go. I don't get bills. I'm not in any debt.

Cancelled mine before it became cool, told 'em they ain't getting any readings either. Complain. Be difficult. If they fob you off complain again. If they won't play ball go to the Ombudsman. Yeah, that's right eonenergyuk, I'm costing you money now.

Cancelling a direct debt won’t achieve anything. You’ll just have to pay via an alternative method. Or you’ll end up on pay as go, with the debt you owe added on… ultimately they’ll cut your supply off if you still refuse. These activists haven’t thought this through😂

Since Ofgem have failed us we must help ourselves. First do the video to screw with the price-gouging energy companies, then sign the petition to renationalise our energy industry:

I think EVERYONE should cancel their direct debit. Doesn't mean you don't have to pay your bill, but damn, can you imagine the fear they will feel? Even if you are willing/can pay your bill, cancel your direct debit. BILLIONS in profits, that's not fuel prices, that's greed !

Can't pay what you don't have. They can't cut you off as its illegal, if you cancel your dd and continue to pay what you can afford what can they do? Nothing!

More folks boycotting and not paying bills and taxes now ,it’s now life over death and survival of the fittest
