An energy expert says it's 'ambitious' to think a net zero agreement between gas giant Inpex and the Northern Territory government will be enough to offset carbon emissions from the company's expanding projects.

Acting Chief Minister Nicole Manison said Inpex was "deeply committed" to reducing carbon emissions.

"There's absolutely no indication in this agreement that Inpex are going to be held accountable for these emissions, produced by the fossil fuel companies in the NT," he said. "If we are to tackle climate change globally, and reduce emissions, we have to use carbon capture and storage."

The Pope has committed to no more child abuse within the church The Chinese have committed to no more human rights violations The gas cartels have committed to paying taxes and not price gouging The politicians have committed to no disingenuous / laughable spin So it goes

If we don’t provide our clean coal and heavily emission regulated LNG to the international market, it will be sourced from countries who don’t. Greens slogan should be ‘Out of sight, out of mind’

YEAH? CCS will be the centrepiece with a target that for various technical reasons is too hard. Same as Santos If they allow it simply charge a high carbon tax on any emissions and reserve a significant amount for local use del East coast.

The question is; should they?

By definition no

Just because net zero is a concept doesn’t mean it achieves anything constructive or doesn’t require journalists scrutiny.. A gas giant is a damaging beast sanctioned by society despite the harm. Offsets are dishonest accounting. ecocide

carbon capture is crap 'Energy experts have questioned the viability of carbon capture to offset emissions' Methane from the wells n CO2 when they burn the gas in JAPAN

Do they have a choice with the ABC constantly peddling the climate hoax on us😳🙄 Prepare to go black people and societal breakdown and chaos MSMShitshow🤬

A real Net zero would see them shutting down. Buying dodggy offset credits for your office and machinery isn't going to cut it when your entire Business product will be burnt and produce co2 abd what isn't is leaked into the atmosphere as methane

just airy fairy When they burn the gas for power in Japan they would emit CO2
