Compensation claims from companies who helped keep the lights on to avoid blackouts in NSW and Queensland last month include government-owned companies.

Under RERT, contracted companies are either paid to cut their power use or provide alternative supplies, such as diesel standby, to the grid.Tennant Reed, AiGroup head of climate, energy and environment policy AEMO last year paid almost $100 million in compensation to generators after directing them to put more supply into the market or ensure the grid was stable – especially in South Australia, which is reliant on renewable energy.
