Albanese blames global inaction on climate change for flooding disaster in Sydney | LucyCormack

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says a global failure to act on climate change has thrust disaster on the state’s flood-ravaged communities, as he visited the Hawkesbury to face locals inundated for the fourth time in 18 months.

Earlier he announced a $1000 disaster recovery payment to be made available to flood victims from Thursday, on top of initial disaster assistance already flagged this week.Credit:On Wednesday morning, there were 85,000 people across NSW under evacuation orders and warnings, while the federal government will make available another 150 defence personnel to assist with the recovery effort.

Touring the facility with the premier, Albanese spoke with locals forced to flee their homes again this week, some with only their pets and the clothes on their backs. In a personalised plea to the prime minister, he added: “You and I are both Souths supporters. Let’s get into the front row and start working. Otherwise, you’re going to visit here again.”

“It’s not a simple project...but we are committed to it. [Minister Stuart Ayres] is working very closely with his counterpart in Canberra in relation to work and a joint funding arrangement,” he said.Credit:“Our focus right now is on our people getting back on their feet as possible...but please don’t take from this that we’re not doing that long-term thinking.”

LucyCormack He’s very correct

LucyCormack The Climate is certainly shifting. Man is certainly adding to that shift or we could have even started it. Thus humanity has to try & reduce that shift, otherwise the effects as now happening will even be far worse. Blaming although it might help some cope is however wasting time

LucyCormack I blame water management and engineering

LucyCormack you gotta blame it on Putin.........

LucyCormack Probability does not allow a single event to infer the whole. As such, the title is wrong. What Albo is saying is that as climate change, the 'frequency' of such climate extreme events will occur more often as such it is being playing out - which is scientific correct.

LucyCormack He DID NOT said that. He is very scientific, saying: “The science told us that if we continued to not take action globally on climate change, then these events, extreme weather events, would be more often and more intense. And what we’re seeing, unfortunately, is that play out.”

LucyCormack He's not wrong!

LucyCormack This all could have been avoided if we had just built more windmills...

LucyCormack Albo's only real superpower is blaming other people for his problems

LucyCormack Load of garbage It's just mother nature at her worst and raising ugly head

LucyCormack Albo is right. 'It became clear that storm intensification over recent decades has already reached levels projected to occur in the year 2080.'

LucyCormack We could just be realistic and raise dam walls and learn flood mitigation procedures that work. Climate change will be with us always as will flood events.

LucyCormack Yesterday it was liberal today global tomorrow universe

LucyCormack Not that I'm saying there is no climate change, but we had 5 floods in 1950, Australia has always had floods.

LucyCormack Albo’s has seemingly been more concerned with promoting himself abroad.

LucyCormack Doesn’t he know there were flooding disasters even before he was born? When there was none of this climate change nonsense.

LucyCormack He’s moved to ‘beyond embarrassing’. Every utterance reinforces his unsuitability by a ‘common sense’ metric.

LucyCormack FMD 🤦🏽‍♂️

LucyCormack Worse in 52 Albo. Was that CC

LucyCormack No No

LucyCormack Global warming & freezing, is a natural process that happens every 2,000 years or so (proven fact by scientists) BUT we are not helping by poisoning our planet, billowing poisons into the air etc, we are making things worse. We've stopped using the word POLLUTION & we shouldn't.

LucyCormack We should all be glad now that Albo is in charge and he'll stop the climate from changing and there won't be any more floods. Thanks Albo.

LucyCormack Including our own…

LucyCormack I think we have to accept that humans can't cooperate sufficiently to stop climate change. The focus must be on mitigation, retreat and technological innovation. Population control goes without saying.

LucyCormack So his party will stop taking donations from the fossil fuel industry then?

LucyCormack Somehow everything is the Liberals fault… even the fkn rain 😂😂😂

LucyCormack Is “blame” the right word for scientific causation LucyCormack That would be like blaming gravity for the apple falling, it’s just science

LucyCormack But it was climate change causing drought apparently

LucyCormack What a contemptuous, unscientific PM we have. I thought he wasn’t going to pass the buck!?!?

LucyCormack Heard a dumb trucker say on cb raidio channel 29 M1 motorway central coast today say 'what are the greenies going to say about this, global warming'... no one replied to him... silence for 5 minutes. i should have said to him that when the atmosphere warms, it holds more water.

LucyCormack Pretty sure the world population of 7.5 billion + has nothing to do with it.

LucyCormack Oh dear. The nutters on this thread are nuttier than squirrel poo.

LucyCormack Ffs. This very region has been flooding since records began… first recorded in 1891. Lesson don’t build on a floodplain. Climate change copout is idiotic.

LucyCormack Of course he did.

LucyCormack What a load of rubbish if you believe in that you believe in the tooth fairy

LucyCormack He doesn’t know that for a fact. Nobody does. Correlation isn’t causation. We only have rain records for over a couple of hundred years. This acceptance of a popular narrative by political leaders without qualification, is not what a pair of safe hands should pump up.

LucyCormack NSW has had regular flooding events for at least 150 years.

LucyCormack There's no flies on Albo.

LucyCormack Lol. Must be that. As opposed to building on flood plains.

LucyCormack He’s spot on, unfortunately. This statement means logically no more federal approval for new coal or gas expansion schemes, because they know what is making the problem worse.

LucyCormack Good luck when those floods happen more severely more often and closer together. Then when drought comes back and.the bushfire start it will be the same extreme events more often. The cycles don't change the severity and number of events do.
