New CAPP leader wants seat at the table of energy transition mpotkins

“My vision for CAPP is to be a constructive and solution-oriented partner, working with all governments and with all parties, both here in Canada but also globally,” CAPP CEO Lisa Baiton told attendees of the Alberta Relaunch conference in Calgary on June 28.

In her first public remarks since taking the helm of CAPP in May, Baiton said the industry had been “focused on survival” during nearly a decade of low oil and natural gas prices that triggered significant layoffs and cuts to capital spending. During that time, Baiton said, the industry neglected opportunities to speak to investors and governments outside of Canada.Article content

“I think we’re in a new era,” Baiton told reporters afterwards. “I also think it’s important that maybe we shift our tone and approach so that we can be at the table and be a part of the solutions that are being crafted.” The change in leadership comes at a critical moment for the sector which is currently riding high on surging commodity prices while simultaneously facing pressure to decarbonize and existential questions about future demand for production.
