The signature energy reform piece of the previous government will not start producing electricity until late this decade, presenting another energy market headache for the country.

It is another headache for the nation's energy market, following a meeting of Commonwealth, state and territory this week to discuss the gas crisis gripping the east coast.

Adding to that, the cold snap across Australia has put more pressure on the local electricity market — hampered by unscheduled outages in Australia's ageing fleet of coal-fired power plants. "This is one of the biggest-scale projects we've done as a nation for probably a couple of generations, so of course when you do something as large as this, there's going to be delays," he said.

"Let's be honest, this was always going to happen when you're building something as large as this, but let's just get on with it."

Snowey hydro is a stored hydro project and not a generator of primary power. It basically helps smooth out an inefficient primary power source source. It's a band-aid solution. They say big deal, Qld have done this since 1976 at Wivenhoe.

There is a gap in information dissemination MattDoran91 regarding an 'energy crisis'. Businesses 'struggling' with the cost of fossil fuels are not aware of options to be energy self-sufficient with cheaper renewables. Some examples here - innovation

I dont get it, Australia produces gas, yet Australia has gas crisis.

Another utter failure of the COALition Non-Policy for Energy Mgmt! Pumped Hydro only available 10%, and in driest continent on Earth! ALL systems require both energy generation and storage to maintain constancy of supply, both Renewables and legacy - don't build a half solution!

Malcolm Turnbull legacy: Copper plated Broadband Defunct Snowy Hydro

Could have permitted and built a nuclear power station in this time frame.

22000 dollars a minute we subsidise these greedy energy providers. Why arent we at war with them.We would be at war if China tried to steal our resources or Money supply.

Hey Media. Your job was to keep an eye on this stuff. Not just parrot the LNPLies. auspol

Cut all gas to suburbs in Green Teal electorates. They voted against it. Let them freeze.

Another Turnbill White Elephant....

Green energy is cheaper 🤣 Maybe, but the storage just isn't there yet.

It's like when the LNP put billions into Snowy 2 they chose the most inefficient and environmentally destructive method of generating electricity just to score political points and generate some jobs and lots of hoopla for media consumption.

None of this matters. Labor said before the election they would always deliver cheaper electricity prices.

Sack Ita

Another Liberal disaster.

No way. Who da thunk?

If you have a pool in the backyard then syphon it into a smaller pool via generator and pump the water back into your pool. And there you have it, free energy. That's how dumb the whole thing is.🙄

In theory by the end of Albo's term all of Australia's power needs reliably/cheaper 24/7, will be meet using only renewables , cause the only thing stopping this is the want to do it. auspol 'in theory'

bwahaha
