BMW confirms new 2022 iX1 will have 272-mile maximum range ⚡️

The company has released some limited details about the iX1’s powertrain. Unlike the, it’ll feature an electric motor on each axle. That means it’ll have four-wheel drive, which should make it even easier to crest kerbs and speed bumps during the school run.

That might sound like we’re being a little tongue-in-cheek, but iX1 buyers are very unlikely to use their cars for any serious off-roading. BMW seems to understand this – after reading the brand’s bumf, it sounds like the car’s four-wheel drive system was designed to maximise traction on slippery roads rather than plug through a muddy bog.says it’s been skidding prototype versions of the iX1 around a frozen lake in Sweden to test the car’s wheel slip limitation technology.

BMW is boxing clever with the X1’s production methods, too. The petrol-powered and pure-electric models will be built on the same platform, which saves money and time as both cars can be sent down the same assembly line. It’s an evolution of the previous X1, just updated to suit BMW’s latest design language. The next car’s silhouette is pretty much the same as the old one, but it features the company’s massive new kidney grilles and slimline headlamps.

More importantly, the petrol and electric variants will look nigh-on identical. The only way you’ll be able to tell the two apart is by some subtle blue trim on the exterior and the lack of an exhaust poking out of the rear bumper. BMW employed the same tactic with the X3.
