The supermarket chain is the 12th largest energy user in Australia, and it says its customers expect it to reduce its impact upon climate change.

Supermarket chain Coles Group is trialling an electric-powered truck to deliver stock to NSW stores with transport partner Linfox Logistics as part of its push to net-zero emissions by 2050.

Kirsty Davis, Coles GM Sustainability and Property Services, said the company is undertaking many initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint in its supply chian.“We’re starting to see a limited range of these new technologies coming into the Australian market.

Coles – which is the 12th largest energy user in Australia – has signed five renewable energy contracts to help meet that target.Other sustainability initiatives include LED lights, doors on fridges, and investing in natural refrigerant gases. Its newly refurbished Moonee Ponds supermarket installed this system, while last year Coles Liquor trialled the first natural refrigerant inside a standalone system design. Natural refrigerants are also being rolled out across Coles 1300 delivery fleet.
