“This feels like a once-in-humanity moment to preserve the future of life on the planet.”

in some places in the past quarter century. Areas of the sea completely devoid of oxygen have increased fourfold since the middle of the last century.

There are other shifts, some of them odd. Some crabs and squid struggle to see in low oxygen conditions. Many tiny zooplankton, food for larger creatures in the sea, already live at the very limits of their oxygen threshold and won’t likely survive more decreases without moving to new places. Low oxygen is reducing reproduction for some fish and increasing diseases in others.

“There are lots of good reasons to think we’re representing a global look and capturing a wide spectrum even though we’re only looking at a relatively small number of species,” Deutsch says. “Tropical species are more likely to survive because as warm, hypoxic conditions become globally widespread, these species are already adapted to those types of environments,” Penn says. “Cold, high O2 species have nowhere to go to seek refuge.” That same pattern—greater extinction risk for polar species—was also detected in the fossil record of the end-Permian extinction.

I worry that humanity's ability to control out own systems leaving isn't up to the challenge, the nude barren earth of the technological future is just too comfortable and easy. I think we'd sacrifice all biodiversity for another 30 minutes of free WiFi.

Doing a little is way better than doing nothing

I Challenge everyone to keep a small garbage bag in their purse or car to collect trash at the park, the beach or wherever you see trash. Keep the planet save and clean for all animals.

Surely commercial fishing is by far the biggest threat to our planet's aquatic animals!

A wise woman told me as a toddler common sense is not common. Pitifully

We have to milk the planet and invest all resources in AI, we achieve singularity in 2032. After that somebody will call us stupid and will solve all our problems.

B.S. Fossil fuel (oil) has been leaking up out of the ocean bottom since before man was even here.

Fossil fuel is blood of Earth. If someone drilled you and take your blood without approval, what does you do? Earth will do as you do.

I love all the species creatures under the sea, they are swimming freely with their exotic and gaudy amazing colours , sooo verryyyy coool

Preserve Nurses! Medicaid Doesn't pay for broken anything on RN's who get hurt lifting! Help Retired Nurses please we luv animals but yeah human beings!

Really? Are you sure it is not the pole shift?

I'm thinking that banning plastic in most packaging and removal of it in the pacific junk pile would be 10,000 times more effective.. Just a thought....

👍

Tickets for the shows are given to people around the world to watch the fugitive gay rapists and pedophiles with the help of corrupt authorities who stopped representing against the animals reported through the Café denunciando.

maximize your carbon footprint so all these greedy and freeloading animals will die out

Life has survived, what five mass extinction events? Species didn’t.

🤔

Then someone can buy me an 85K Electric SUV with top range (Audi or Honda) and insure it for me. I can't afford one and I can't take public transit, bike or walk everywhere. OK?

It's people who have to show their determination, government's will follow!! I wish all the species live and multiply ❤️

don’t be lite.

Hydrogen is our only real option in the near future. EVs etc are cool and reasonably clean but they do have massive limitations - lack of infrastructure, fuel time, product life, high cost and all EVs produce terminal waste which pollutes. That's possibly Elons next challenge ?

Brought to you by Phizer.

indeed!

lmfao.

I love turtle

The headline is missing a detail: 'It’s a big mistake to equate greenhouse gas emissions with burning fossil fuels alone; you’d be missing about 38% of the emissions, and 38% of the opportunities to address climate change.'

Dude! Cruise ships and mega resorts, too. WTF regulators? Where is the regulating 🤯😮🫢
