A devastated family has warned against using a tumble dryer at night after they narrowly escaped a fire which gutted their home last weekend.

Ciaran and Kym Meagher and their two children have lost most of their belongings and have been left temporarily homeless in the blaze.

“When she saw the smoke, she ran across the landing to our room and woke us up. I could see Kym and Shannon but I couldn’t see Josh who was asleep in his room downstairs so I shouted to him to get out. The fire services arrived within 20 minutes and brought the fire under control in a few hours but the semi-detached home was destroyed.

Within hours, community spirit had kicked in and dozens of people were in the house cleaning and sweeping up in the aftermath of the fire. “A group of lads about 10 years old came up to me with money they had raised from selling lemonade on their estate.
