Older tumble dryers use way more energy and can be driving up your bills

As the cost of living continues to rise, many people are beginning to look into how they can save on energy bills by using their appliances efficiently.

According to Money Guide Ireland, using a tumble dryer can cost anything between €1 and about 40 cents to dry an average load of clothes.Over the course of the year, this can really add up - and how much you're spending really depends on the type and age of the tumble dryer you're using. A C rated 8kg tumble dryer will use around 585kWh/year or almost 5 kWh per load. This would represent a saving of almost €80 a year in running costs on average, meaning that for homes that do a lot of drying, paying more for an efficient dryer makes sense. The actual energy usage and cost of using your dryer will depend on what energy rating it has. If you have a tumble dryer that is older than six years, it is very likely to be using even more electricity than many you can buy now.
