Energy Energy Headlines News

Wealthy countries like Ireland must cut fossil fuel subsidies, ramp up the transmission to renewable energy and stop practices that are killing biodiversity and harming nature, An Taisce has warned after IPCC report.

Kevin O'Farrell, Climate Committee Chair at An Taisce, said:"The scientific evidence offered by the IPCC emphasises no further delay in drastically reducing climate damaging pollution.

The Minister for Climate Change, Eamon Ryan, said the report"underlined the importance of the Government's commitment to scaling up and speeding up Ireland’s switch to alternative energy systems to reduce greenhouse gas emissions". "The current energy crisis has underpinned the importance of reducing our reliance on imported fossil fuels and accelerating the switch to our own indigenous, renewable energy."

The NGO said the report comes at a time when the world is"sliding backwards" on its climate commitments. Labour leader Ivana Bacik said the IPCC report highlighted that"we do not have any more time left to waste in ending our overreliance on oil and gas".Ms Bacik said Ireland"should be looking at an urgent acceleration in the ramping up of our capacity to generate energy from renewable sources.

The only wealthy part is the civil servant and govt salary/pensions Including the cunts in RTÉ

Start with councils, the OPW, farmers and Irish rail being prosecuted for destroying trees and hedging even during nesting.

Ireland as a country is extraordinarily wealthy. We have one of the highest GDP’s per capita in the world. Almost every country in the world has debt.

The clueless folks on this thread who don't realise how wealthy Ireland is really need to get out more and see some of the world

The word wealthy used very loosely here

Ah would you stop with the propaganda

Maybe someone should tell them that Ireland is not a rich country, in fact we are so broke that we have to whore ourselves out to the EU and multinationals

Wealthy 😂😂😂

Not sure it will make much difference....Global emissions ...

Judging by the lack of likes this is going to be a hard sell to get the public to buy into the narrative!

the greens would want to get real. Seriously, they should be addressing the big fossil fuelled countries like china and US. Tackling the fuel from planes, ships, trucks, trains and buses and data centres. Not the ordinary worker who is a cheap target that won’t work

Ah yes, An Taisce.. The crowd who answer to nobody but are against everything and object to any sort of process.. They are the same crowd appealing planning for wind farms etc while objecting to fossil fuels.. Clowns.

Since when? Wealthy country?
