The report compares the total ownership costs of electric vehicles compared with their gas-powered equivalents, from purchasing, to refuelling, to maintenance.“We looked at all the costs,” said Trevor Melanson, communications director with Clean Energy Canada, “and in every single comparison, the electric car came out cheaper.”
Assuming gas prices of $2 per litre, Chevrolet’s popular battery-powered Volt offers nearly $30,000 in savings over the eight-year life of the vehicle, when compared with the similar, gas-powered Toyota Corolla hatchback, according to the report. “The poll results show that rising fuel prices are a big catalyst in changing Canadian attitudes towards EVs,” Peter Hatges, national automotive sector leader of KPMG in Canada, said in a statement.Article content
“The biggest challenge right now is not demand, it’s supply,” said Melanson. “The dream is that you can just go to a car dealership, see anything you like and just drive it home.”
April fool's joke!
Cost of vehicle and battery replacement. Future electric costs. Practicality for distance travel.
Savings; for now. Infastructural costs are still to be included for the EV consumer. For now EV drivers can even charge for free at some charging stations.
Did the study include 1) having to buy a new battery, 2) cost of insurance?
until they have to buy a new battery
BULLOCKS ks. This is manipulation of facts and gaslighting. It'll take at least 5 or more years to break even compared to the equivalent ICE Vehicle. And in 10 yrs you'll need a new vehicle if you drive an EV
EV batteries use more CO2 to produce than 8 years of petrol driving & cannot be recycled; use rare metals that are mined in poor countries by slave/child labour. They are subsidised & rely on electricity from fossil fuels. EVs are expensive toys for the rich, paid for by the poor
